In London I listened to Mr. Howard M. Brandston being the key note speaker at the PLDA convention in 2007. I decided that I wanted to learn more about his work but most of all more about how he approaches a lighting design task. I found almost all my answars in his newly published book "Learning to see. A matter of Light" In short: Is is simply a brilliant book! Proboply the best techinal illuminating engineering book I have ever read.
I simply had to write to Mr. Brandston and thank him for putting his expirence and thoughts in print.
I wrote the following:
Dear Howard M. Brandston
I have just finished your book "Learning to see, a matter of light" and I have to say that your book is the best book on light, lighting and lighting design I have ever read. And I have read quite a few, I might add. Your section describing your thoughts about "Lighting the Lady" brought tears to my eyes. I mean this literally, I have never read anything that describes what is needed to excel in lighting design as good as your chapter 14.
I have worked with lighting for 23 years and I give lectures on the subject all across the world, so trust me, I know what I am talking about.
I simply had to share this feeling with you, and to thank you for putting your thoughts to the paper.
I wish you all the best in the future and hope your work and your book will thrill and inspire others as much as it has inspired me.
Best regards

Thank you very much for your kind thoughts about my book. I felt I had to leave something in print after all the good fortune I have had working in light and lighting. I hope it will help to inspire multitudes of people to surpass the work I have done, to continue to advance the art of lighting and to grow the profession.
Again thank you. It is a wonderful feeling to be appreciated.
